Unlike Vault encrypts your files with a key only you can open.
The server that runs Unlike Vault never receives a file, a key, or a cloud login token — only your account's key, and only in a wrapped form it cannot open.

§ 01 · Sealed on your device
The encryption happens where you are.
Your files are encrypted on your device. What the encryption produces is ciphertext, and no plaintext ever leaves the machine it was encrypted on.
On Windows, files are encrypted in place, in the same folder they already live in.
Files are encrypted with AES-256-GCM, and the key that wraps your account key is derived with Argon2id. Those are the actual claims, named rather than dressed up.
§ 02 · Your passphrase
Set once. Never held by us.
Every account has a passphrase, set once right after sign-up. It's what opens your vault: we never hold it, and there is no way to reset it.
On Android you can unlock with your fingerprint instead of typing it, and the passphrase always still works. Windows Hello does the same job on Windows.
§ 03 · One account, one sign-in
The account you sign up with is the account you sign in with.
Sign up with your Google, Microsoft or Zoho account. That account stays the way you sign in — one account, one sign-in. On the web you can also add a passkey, which signs you in and unlocks the vault in one tap.
Signing in with Google, Microsoft or Zoho only proves who you are. We don't keep a token from it, and it doesn't connect anything — connecting Google Drive or OneDrive on Windows or Android is a separate, optional step, later, only for storing your encrypted vault in your own cloud.

§ 04 · Honest about the limits
If you lose your passphrase, the files stay shut.
There is no way to reset your passphrase. If you lose it, the files stay encrypted and nobody — including us — can open them. That is the point, and it is also the risk.
A reset we could perform would be a door we could be compelled to open. We would rather not have the door. Write the passphrase down somewhere you trust.
§ 05 · What we do not do
Nothing is shared with anyone.
No ads. No analytics. No crash reporting. No trackers. Nothing is shared with anyone.
This website runs no analytics either, for the same reason: a page that says "no analytics" while loading a tracker has already broken the promise on the first URL anyone checks. The Privacy Policy has the complete list of what we store, which is short, and what we never store, which is shorter.
