Terms of Service — Unlike Vault

1. Who provides Unlike Vault

Unlike Vault is provided by Adamanture Private Limited, a private limited company established in India. "We", "us" and "our" mean that company. "You" means the person using Unlike Vault. These terms govern your use of the Unlike Vault apps for Windows and Android, the Unlike Vault web app, and this website.

Those are not the same product. Windows and Android are the full app — folders, a real tree, and an optional vault in your own cloud storage. The web app is a demo: one file in, one file out, with no folders and no cloud storage of any kind. Clause 8 says what that means in practice.

By creating an account or using Unlike Vault, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use it.

2. Eligibility and your account

You must be 18 or older to use Unlike Vault. This is a term of this agreement. The app does not ask your age and has no way to check it, so it rests on you.
One account is one identity. An account is created with exactly one provider identity — a Google, Microsoft or Zoho account — and that identity is the only way in, for the life of the account. There is no way to add a second sign-in method to an account, and no way to remove the one it has. Zoho signs in on the web; the Windows and Android apps sign in with Google or Microsoft.
You choose your passphrase. You set it once, just after sign-up. Nothing is generated for you, we never see it, and no copy of it is held anywhere — not by us, not in your account, not in a backup. Clause 4 is the consequence of that sentence.
You are responsible for your account and your passphrase. Anyone who has your passphrase can open your vault, and we cannot tell them apart from you.

3. Acceptable use

Do not use Unlike Vault to:

break the law, or store or distribute material that is illegal where you are;
infringe someone else's rights;
attack, overload, probe or disrupt our service or the infrastructure it runs on, or attempt to gain access to an account that is not yours;
circumvent rate limits, or automate account creation.

Encryption does not exempt you from the law of your own jurisdiction. That we cannot see what you store does not make it ours to answer for, and it does not make it lawful.

4. The passphrase cannot be reset. By anyone.

If you lose your passphrase, your files stay encrypted permanently. There is no reset, no recovery flow, no backup copy, and no support path that can open a vault — not for you, not for us, not for anyone who asks us on your behalf and not for anyone who compels us.

This is the design, not a gap in it. We never hold your passphrase and we never hold a key we can open, so there is nothing for us to give back. A reset we could perform would be a door we could be compelled to open.

You accept this before you encrypt anything. Keep your passphrase somewhere you trust. If you lose it, the loss of access to your own data is a consequence of how the product works, and it is not a defect, a service failure, or something we can be asked to reverse.

Losing your passphrase does not trap you in the account. You can still delete it — clause 10.

5. What you may do with Unlike Vault, and what stays whose

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use Unlike Vault on devices you control, for as long as you keep to these terms. That is a licence to use the software, not a sale of it.

Do not resell, rent or sublicense it, and do not reverse-engineer it except where the law gives you that right regardless of what a contract says.

Your files are yours. We take no licence in them and claim no rights over them, and we could not exercise one if we did — we cannot read them. The Unlike Vault software, name and design are ours. Feedback you send us we may use to improve the product; that is what sending it is for.

6. Availability, and what we do not warrant

Unlike Vault is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the fullest extent the law allows. We do not promise that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at any particular time, and we may change, suspend or discontinue any part of it.

Unlike Vault is in development and has not been released. Nothing on this website is an offer of a working product or a commitment to a delivery date.

Rights you have as a consumer are not affected. Some rights cannot be removed by a contract — in India under the Consumer Protection Act 2019, and in the EU and the UK under the consumer law covering digital content and digital services. Where anything in this clause would remove such a right from you, it does not apply to you, and the rest of these terms still stand.

7. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, goodwill or data.

This includes, explicitly, data made unrecoverable by a lost passphrase, by a lost or reset device, or by the deletion of an account — each of which destroys the only copies of the material that opens your files. See clause 4: this outcome is the product working correctly.

Some liability nobody can exclude, and we do not try. Death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, and anything else the law where you live does not permit us to exclude, sit outside every limit on this page.

For everything else, our total liability for all claims is capped at the greater of two figures: what you paid us for Unlike Vault in the twelve months before the claim, and ₹5,000. Unlike Vault is free today, so in practice that is the second figure. A cap of nothing is an unfair term in India and would be read down in the EU and the UK, so we have not written one.

8. Other people's services

Signing in. Your account is created with a Google, Microsoft or Zoho account. That account is yours with that provider, governed by their terms and their privacy policy, not ours. We never keep a token from them: the token your device obtains at sign-in is spent proving who you are and then dropped. Signing in with a provider gives us no access to anything else you keep there.

Your own cloud storage. On Windows and Android you may choose to store your encrypted vault in your own Google Drive or OneDrive. That is a separate, optional step with its own consent screen — never part of signing in, and not available on the web at all. The storage is your account with that provider, governed by their terms and their privacy policy, not ours. We do not control it, cannot restore it, and are not responsible for its availability, pricing, quotas, or for anything that provider does with the account. Personal Google and Microsoft accounts only; work and school Microsoft accounts are not supported.

What that provider can still see. The number of encrypted objects in the vault folder, how big each one is, and when each was written. Names are random and contents are ciphertext, but the shape of your activity is visible, and we cannot hide it from them — those are properties of their storage, not ours. The Privacy Policy sets this out in full.

Unlike Vault's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

9. If you got Unlike Vault from Google Play

Your download of the Android app, and your use of it, are also covered by Google Play's own terms, which are an agreement between you and Google. Nothing here reduces a right those terms give you, and where the two disagree about the download itself, theirs wins.

Google is not a party to this agreement, does not provide Unlike Vault, and is not responsible for it. Support is ours: dev@adamanture.com.

10. Deletion, suspension and termination

You can delete your account at any time — see Delete your account. Deleting asks you to prove the account is yours, and accepts either proof: your passphrase, or a fresh sign-in with the provider your account was created with. The second exists so that losing your passphrase never traps you in an account you cannot leave.

Deletion is immediate, cascades to every row we hold for you, and cannot be undone. It does not delete the encrypted files in your own cloud storage or on your own devices — those are yours, and yours to remove.

We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these terms, or where we are required to by law, with notice where the situation allows it. Because we cannot read what you store, such action rests on account behaviour we can observe — abuse of the service itself — rather than on content.

11. Governing law

India, with disputes in the courts of Adamanture Private Limited's registered seat — after we have genuinely tried to fix it over email first.

If you use Unlike Vault as a consumer, that does not take away your right to bring a claim in the courts of the country where you live, or to rely on the consumer law of that country.

12. Changes to these terms

We will update this page and change the date at the top. If a change is material, we will email you before it takes effect. Continuing to use Unlike Vault after a change means you accept the updated terms.
